See here is the thing. Me and some friends have been trying to play a pc game which requires us to open ports to connect to each other. To do this I need to disable my firewall and do disable my firewall I need the user name and password which was lost years ago, not my fault wasn't responsible for it. Basically what I want to know is if I was to buy a new router would it be able to use the same internet without any trouble and have a new user name and password which I could keep safe and use to access the firewall?

"kyle f" is correct. However, make sure the router is plugged in and on when you reset it. The reset button won't do anything if the router isn't powered up.

Be aware, this will reset everything. If you use ASDL, you will need to configure the router again (with the username and password from your ISP) to get it to work again.

By the way, instead of opening up your entire network, why don't you just put your computer in your router's DMZ? Or, better yet, find out what ports your game needs, and direct them to your computer. That way, you aren't unprotected.

try reckoning on returned of router and use the serial extensive style for the password and use the call of the router for the username as an occasion my modem is a 2 twine type so my person call is two twine and then put in serial extensive style for pass

yeah it will still use the same internet, and when you install it you will need to make a new name and password

but as far as your old router goes just couldnt you just unplugged it and hold the reset button to set it back to no name or password, then just change it to what you wanted again

of course. a new router will be still set to default for username and password.

if you are on a PPPOE dsl service your login information for your isp will stay the same and you may have to add it to the new router

If you buy a new router, you will be prompted to make a new username and password when you install it
