When you're connecting to computers together in what is referred as a work-group environment, you should be aware of the following:

->Enable file/printer sharing. On Vista, the Network Sharing Center is accessible in Control Panel. In XP Network and Internet Connections are available in the Control Panel as well.

->Make sure that both computers have a user account that shares the same user name and password on both machines. Otherwise there is no method to authenticate when a computer tries to connect to another.

->Check firewall settings, sometimes File/Printer sharing are blocked on either end and sometimes both. Also note that if you're running various anti-virus programs, it may include a firewall that will complicate the diagnosis. For this reason, only one firewall is advised to be running on your machine. For diagnostic purposes, you should disable the firewall and see if you connect given the requirements stated above are met. Then if all is well, create rule exceptions for particular ports or computer IP address or IP address range.

Setup record and printer sharing on the homestead windows vista pc. Set the homestead windows xp pc to the WORKGROUP workgroup. this is going to be MSHOME by utilising default. or, you are able to exchange the workgroup on the homestead windows vista comp to MSHOME from WORKGROUP. Works the two way. After doing that, flow to my community places on WinXP then view desktops, click on the vista comp, then double click on the printer. this is going to now initiate setting up the printer, you are able to attempt if it truly works by utilising printing something off notepad. the two between the desktops additionally must be related to the comparable community

the programs are different you need to go to microsoft and see if there is a download of copatable programs out yet. vista has created problems because yahoo, and other sies have to work through explorer to even come on. there are other programs and printers that will not work on the vista programs you might go through the geek squad and ask them also
