My laptop connects to the internet fine(writing this question from it as we speak), but when i go into the network connections to connect to another pc to transfer files, it wont connect. The stupid thing is that i see my laptop in the network and it wont connect to itself. what could be the problem?

I have an ASUS gaming laptop(g60v) and this also happened to my previous router, The current router we have is a netgear n600 model wndr3400.

Firewalls on yours and the other computers need to be made aware of one another.

Update: Yes, as another responder suggested, the computers need to be in the same Workgroup. Windows 7 should have a password for the Workgroup as well.

You must add both computers to same workgroup first. Right click your 'Computer' icon (or 'computer' on start menu), properties and Click 'Change Settings' which is almost at the bottom of the Window next to computer name and stuff. Click 'Change' and enter a work group name. Do the same in the other computer too. now, Just right click a folder and share it Right click the folder, properties, sharing and click Advanced sharing. Tick the sahre, name it and add users )or everyone if thats is ok). Adjust the firewall (refer this : - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Networking-home-computers-running-different-versions-of-Windows

Hmm, uninstalling the AVG 8.0 might have been a mistake because of the fact it sounds such as you erased maximum of your community and your computer will possibly no longer be properly matched to apply the different subject you put in so consistent with possibility you could attempt to uninstall that and reinstall the AVG 8.0. desire you get your computer fastened, sturdy success.

You did not mention your operating system. Is that Windows 7? You will need to have your PC and the other PC both have same account name and password.
