The cases are not truly free, you have to pay shipping.

Note that there is a shipping charge associated with each free case:

USA & Canada - $6.95 (3 - 8 business days*)

International - $9.95 (5 - 14 business days*)

The reason they are "free" is so the business does not have to collect sales taxes. There are no sales taxes collected on shipping charges.

They make their profit from the shipping charge. These cases probably cost them a dollar, made in China. A shipping box or packet about a dollar. The postage about a dollar. Profits after material costs about $3.50 per item.

But that's profit before paying someone to put the case in a box, attach the address label, attach the stamp, pay for the space used, electricity, etc. They might be operating out of their home. They need to sell a lot of these to make a living.

And how do you pay ? With PayPal.

And what is the name of the business at the PayPal log in page ?

"powerlft@gmail.com"

That's not the name of the website.

There is nothing on that PayPal that says "freetouchcase.com" which is odd.

So I wonder if that "business name" is also used for other small websites selling small things.

It is common for businesses to use GMail for all of their email communication with the outside world.

A Gmail address is therefore not unusual.

I could not find a business address on that website.

I could not find a business telephone number on that website.

But let's look at some other websites.

McAfee SiteAdvisor has not scanned the website for malicious software.

Norton SafeWeb has not scanned the website for malicious software.

MyWOT does not scan.

None of these three have any user reports about the website.

On the MyWOT page, look carefully for a link titled :

Here's what I find concerning :

The website is hosted at

199.188.205.16

There are at least four other domains also hosted at the IP address, and one of them is a pornographic website. The business owner might not be aware of the IP address-sharing if the registrar and the hosting site has not told the business owner.

The sharing is done because there are very few unused IP addresses available.

I don't trust the technology, and would not use it unless I owned all the websites that were sharing that IP address.

Hello alejandro,

Hmmm...a free iPod Touch case? I don't think so. Who in his or her right mind would give out a free case, right? And with choices of colors, too. But of course, I can't directly label their site as scammers so I did a little research about the website. Normally, I use Verify1st.com in order to uncover a site's identity, reputation, and relationships with other websites. However, there's no data yet for http://verify1st.com/freetouchcase.com - perhaps on their next release, more domains will be indexed in the database already.

Other information that I found:

1) It's a little bit strange that the domain has been registered since 15-Feb-2010 (http://www.whois.com/whois/freetouchcase.com) and yet, there's NO DATA at all with regards to its popularity ranking by Alexa. Having existed for that amount of time, don't you think that's suspicious? Not to mention the 2 sites that are linking into them though upon clicking, I see nothing. (Who knows?) See more in http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/freetouchcase.com

2) On the other hand, at least it hasn't been blacklisted yet - http://rbls.org/freetouchcase.com - though it hasn't been around for that long to not get into trouble, right?

3) Over the couple of years in existence, other reputation tools haven't even tested the site yet for any significant threats. Not much reviews can be seen either. (Quite odd, don't you think?)

4) Now, I'm getting a bit more suspicious... there must be a catch on this so-called FREE case! And true enough, the shipping charges! Obviously, they're just saying it's free but in reality, it's not. Also, I don't see any valid contact numbers and physical address. These are common behaviors among scammers so I suggest you try the Contact Us message box and see if someone replies to you.

Bottom line, all these don't necessarily make them scammers, but they're not totally risk-free either! Perhaps you'll receive what you order but you could have been misled by the shipping charges. Worse is, if you don't receive anything at all and you've sent your payment already. I suggest you to be extra vigilant on shelling out some dollars and think twice or more if your would-be order is worth it.

Hope this helps! Tread carefully!

I despatched e mail to the humans with the "Free Dalmations" i will bet bucks to donuts that the pups are free and i simply need to pay transport and that the pups are in an additional nation unquestionably. You will no longer discover a canine cheaper then at your regional canine pound. Those puppies come already spayed/neutered, all pictures, micro-chip and a dog license. If you just are looking for an natural/outside bred canine and do not care about its wellbeing, genetics or temperament then that is a super location to get a dog. However in case you suppose you deserve a first-class dog you must purchase a purebred from a respectable breeder. As an FYI reliable breeders do not promote within the Pennysaver, Kiiji, or Puppyfind

Just looking at an address like that it probably is of a malicious nature. I personally would just ignore it.
