Here are my instructions.. So many words to be made simple that all may not be able to be posted here.. If this is the case..

In a typical home networking setup, internet access is through a DSL or Cable modem. That modem may be connected to a router, which is then connected to the networked computers by Ethernet or WiFi. The router is the device that the Internet sees; it holds the public IP address. The computers behind the router, on the other hand, are invisible to the Internet as they hold a local IP address each. Port forwarding is necessary in the router because computers will send information directed to the public IP address and the router needs to know where to send that informatio
TO SET PORTFORWARDING:
FIRST, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO KNOW THE NAME SERVERS OR DNS SERVERS. (AS NOTED BELOW, IF THE DNS SERVERS HAVE THE SAME IP ADDRESS AS YOUR IP ADDRESS - YOU WILL NEED TO GET THE REAL DNS SERVER ADDRESSES BY ACCESSING YOUR ROUTER.
Go to START
RUN
Type in: command (or) you can type cmd
Click OK
At the > Prompt, Type this in: >ipconfig /all
(yes there is a space between ipconfig and /all)
Press Enter
Write Down the Following information from the Window:
Write down these's addresses and also be sure to note which address belong to what, because you will be inputing this information later.
** IP Address
** Subnet Mask
** Default Gateway
** Name or (DNS) Servers - (it may be one or two of these Servers) Write them down in the order that they are listed.
*************************************
some Routers act as a proxy between the actual name servers and your comuter. You will know when this is the case, becasue the Default Gateway will list teh same ip address as the Name Servers entery. We need to hae teh correct Name Server IPaddresses. If we do not, you will not be able to browse the web. There are a couple ways to get these. The first way is to log into your router's web interface, and look at your router's status Name Servers. Anotehr way to get the correct Name Serrvers to use , is to give your ISP a call. They should know the ip addressseds of your Name Serversright off . If they ask you why you need them, you can tell them you are trying to setup a static address on your comuter. If they try to sell you a static external ip address, don't bbut it.
That's an entirely different thing than what you are trying to setup.
Type exit in the window, then press enter key to close it.
Once again, Open the Start Menu.
Go to the Contol Panel.
Double Click Network Connections
Right Click on the Connection that you use for the Internet. Ex: Local Area Connection 1)
Click PROPERTIES at the bottom
You may be led to a screen that shows contains a DISABLE Button if so - click PROPERTIES if not - continue...
Click once to Highlight: INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) and then Click the PROPERTIES button.
You should then have a screen which has: Obtain an Ip address automatically, Use the following IP address, IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Use the following DNS server addresses, Preferred DNS server, Alternate DNS Server.
Write down the Setting that you see on this page ("Obtain an Ip Address" should be selected already, (meaning it has a dot). That is what you need to remember if setting up the static Ip Doesn't work, Just remember to put the dot back here.
*If you don't have a dot there already, but "Use the following IP address" is selected, (meaning there is a dot beside it already) - your static IP address is already setup correctly. Just close all the windows and that is the final step.
Ok - to get the Static IP address set - up:
From the NOTES that you took of your IP address, Supnet Mask, Default Gateway, & DNS Server(s),...
Enter your IP address in but change the last number(s) within the last set of dots in your original IP address.
Meaning if on your Notes for your IP Adress (from the command prompt - ipconfig /all), where 192.168.1.1 you could enter in
192.168.1.10 (The ending number should be between 1 & 254, but should NOT be the exact number as the original IP Address)
Every Computer on your Network needs to have it's own IP Address.
Put the EXACT NOTED SUBNET MASK, DEFAULT GATEWAY, AND DNS(s) SERVER VALUES IN THEIR CORRECT PLACES WITHIN THE DIALOGUE BOX.
CLICK OK all the way out of this menu.
NOw open up a webpage to make sure that you are still able to browse the web.
If you are unable to browse the web - more-than-likely, this is due to the DNS Numbers you entered.
Give your ISP a call, and they will be able to tell you which DNS Servers to use.
If this is your case, go back and change your configuration back to what it originally was - until you are able to get the DNS SERVER information from your ISP.
NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE ABOVE INFORMATION ENTERED CORRECTLY...
