I bought a TL-WR940N router today. And all installation processes worked fine. After finishing the setup, the internet worked fine for my computer with the ethernet cable. However, for my mac and other devices, the wlan network was detected but cannot be joined.... pllease help?

The manual indicates that security is enabled by default. So until you go into the setup pages and set it up, you will be locked out. This is "for your protection"

Don't you just love it?

What you do is use an Ethernet cable and your browser to access the setup pages

Use the manual to see the procedure.

Go to the wireless setup

Give the router a name by entering it in the Box for SSID name

enable WPA/PSK encryption and enter a password

save and restart.

You should now be able to find and access your wireless network

It's not OS dependent Apple, Microsoft, and any OS that supports Ethernet follows the IEEE standards. The problem is these idiot hardware vendors try to use a setup program that only complicates things. I bought a Cisco router and I honestly threw it against the wall because all I needed was a signal. But they wanted me to use their setup program which entailed pressing next on one computer and running to the other computer. I finally turned off all of the router security just to get it to work the way I needed to.

With that said, that is probably your problem. The vendor has the security turned so far up out of the box. Run through the router settings and disable everything. Get it to work with your devices then turn the security back on little by little. At the very least you can turn on the MAC Address filter to prevent access.

From taking a quick look at the user manual for your router, it sounds possible that it is not compatible with Mac computers and perhaps is only compatible with Window based devices.

In their user manual, page 6, all that is mentioned are PC, Windows IE browser and Netscape. User Manual is linked below however I would think you may have one.

Did you ask about compatibility with Apple/Mac devices?

Only other thing, if the router is compatible, may be the firmware of the router needs to be upgraded. The website also has information regarding version upgrades and emphasis the importance of upgrades be compatible with the Router Version indicated on the router. Be careful if you try a firm ware upgrade and be certain it is for the router's version.
