On your Windows 2003 machine, run DCPROMO & follow through the wizard to create your domain, advising it that this is a NEW domain.

If you have a second 2003 machine, 1/2 hr after the 1st one has completed it's promotion ( lots of processes still run in the background after the wizard stops ), run DCPROMO again & this time select to join an existing domain.

---------

Now you have a domain.

--------

Got to each of your client workstations ( cannot be home edition as this doesn't support connection to an AD network ) & right click My Computer. Select properties.

Inside the properties box, select computer name tab.

Click the radio button & enter the domain name managed by your DC (s).

Once you click OK, it'll ask for account details within the AD domain with rights to add the machine into AD. Enter this, click enter & hey presto.

There is not enough information with the question.

However, these steps will promote your Windows 2003 Server to a DC. I am assuming you do not already have a DNS server and you are creating a fresh domin in a fresh forest.

1) Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Configure your Server.

2) Custom Configuration

3) Domain Controler.

4) Follow Wizard, when asked for a domain name, choose something like 'mydomain.local'.

5) Follow the DNS Server wizard. You are creating a new DNS server.

6) Reboot when asked to.

7) Log back in. Set up a DHCP server. Authorise it.

8) Add PC's to your domin in system properties.

The standard domain controller setup will work, but for XP you can not join the domain from a home version, any workstations you wish to become domain members must be pro versions.

i understand you will get a extensive-unfold XP laptop (unsure approximately server) to bump into an Ubuntu laptop by ability of putting in smbfs in gadget--> administration--> Synaptic equipment supervisor in Ubuntu. smbfs is software that is conscious the SMB/CIFS protocol this is utilized in living house windows for workgroups and lan dealing with and stuff like that. there is likewise some thing called Samba which does the comparable subject, yet helps greater function. I put in them the two just to be certain. After setting up it you will desire to have some innovations interior the shared folders menu on Ubuntu on placing workgroup and stuff like that.

configure it the normal way, there is no diffrence. set up the domain tree, create users, asses the servers internal site on the client computer and run the connect wizard.
