install and run "ccleaner"

it will remove all the cookies and temp files left every time you browse.

this will recover some memory and help with the speed of your browsing.

this will help

Sounds like Internet Explorer is set to 'Always Dial My Default Connection' which in this case is the People PC connection. This would explain why it is prompting you to connect to them upon opening. To correct this, I would try the following: 1.Click 'Start'>>'Settings'>>'Control Panel' 2. Find and open 'Internet' or 'Internet Options' 3. Click on 'Connections' tab. 4. Change connection option to 'Never Dial A Connection' 5. Click on 'Apply' and then 'Ok' to exit the Internet Options menu. Now the next time you open Internet Explorer, it should no longer prompt you to connect to People PC, but should feed off of your Comcast connection. However, there still may be some other settings that need to be adjusted. At least this should be a start for you. Best of Luck. :-) Danny

things do not always happen instantly on a computer as much as people would like it to it has to go through certain processes,

it seems from what you are saying ,

that you may have something nasty lurking inside your computer click on this link and do the on-line scan just to check,

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

it will not do any harm just to check ,

after that if the scan finds you have something it may have destroyed some of your core files...

sort that out then upgrade to IE7 there are a lot of things that need to be changed to make it faster,

one of which is your tcp/ip protocol settings and if you do not know what you are doing you can realy stuff it up.

E mail me for more support to help you in this matter only....

Try pinging some sites, from Start | cmd

type "ping www.google.com"

Try a bunch of sites, if you're getting packet loss, something aint right.

Also, try http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html to test the speed of your connection, if it's lower than you're paying for call up your ISP and let them know.

Also, you could download a linux live CD or borrow one off a friend and see if you have the same problem - if it's fast on linux but slow in XP you COULD be laden with malware. Anything's possible.

Scan disc try this and see if this helps also along with the other advice about clearing temporary files and your cache of cookies etc.

Decent antivirus SpyDoctor....free download and trial.

You might have too many cookies and files on your internet explorer. Go to tools, then internet options and then click on clear history, clear files .. etc.. that should speed up your computer.

If not , then tune up your computer i would recommend Tuneup Utilities 2008.

First, look for malwares, and remove the toolbars.

Also, I would also check that the virtual memory your computer is consuming is less than or equal your RAM memory.

Good luck,

Sounds like you have spyware or adware. Go to download.com and download Adaware (its free) and Spybot (free). They will install and then run them both and I bet you have alot of spyware that it will get rid of.

Also, go to tools, internet options, and under browsing history click on delete files.

it's your ISP, do a speed test at speedtest.net to see how slow your connection is.
