Get external antennas for your desktop PC and for your quest modem.

=

External antennas would increase signal strength and speed.

External antennas are nice, but many things have unremovable antennas. The cables length

decreases the signal strength, so they are short.

The best solution is to run a CAT 5 from the Quest (modem/router) to a central location which has power. Install an AP. An AP is not a router, it is a wireless access point, like a switch. Many

routers can be converted to an AP. This simply extends your wireless network.

for indoor on the spot purposes previous 20 feet. wavelength propagation occurs at 30 db in step with one hundred feet. that is all by way of a mixture of attenuation through walls, ceilings, furnishings and folk. each sheet rock wall will attenuate the signal through 6 db (4 db for cement block). if diverse computers are connecting to a on the spot router or AP then definite position the router or AP contained in the perfect centralized area for each of the on the spot receivers. if in person-friendly words one computer is appropriate to the router or AP then you definately favor to placed the router or AP as close to to the receiver as available. you could also upload a omni-directional antenna which will decrease loses from mulipath.

you can buy an external antena for your pc's wireless card , that'll increase the signal

if speed is still an issue, find out wether your router and wifi card are b/g or n , 802.11n being the fastest to this date.

Why dont you just admit you are stealing your neighbors unsecured wifi and you would like to know how to boost the signal.

and the answer is a long range Alpha wireless network adapter that is 1000mw or 2000mw both are really cheap

Buy one of these and your problems will be solved http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfa-AWUS036H-Upgraded-Wireless-Long-Rang/dp/B000WXSO76/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1340967802&sr=8-2

use 'access point" to increase the signal strength .TPLINK for exemple.
