This is the second brand-new Netgear router I have used. The first one, also brand-new, worked at first, but only for a few minutes. Almost right after I got it out of the box, set it all up and connected everything to the wifi, the little "i" icon started blinking orange and so did the blue wifi icon and we were never able to re-establish a signal, despite shutting everything down that was connected to it. We power-cycled the router, and even reset it using the little button in the back you have to press with a safety pin. Thinking it was the router, we returned it to the store for another new Netgear router. We set the second one up and everything was working perfectly, we had a strong signal and the little "i" icon was consistently green, though it did blink on occasion, and the blue wifi icon is usually steady blue. Tonight I was surfing the web and suddenly my connection was lost. The "i" icon was blinking orange again, and the blue wifi icon was blinking rapidly as well. Again, I shut down all of my computers that were connected to the wifi, turned the wifi off on my phone, unplugged the modem, unplugged the router, and waited about 5 minutes before plugging the modem back in, waited for it to start up completely, then plugged the router back in. The little "i" was blinking orange again at first, then it went green. I turned my computer back on, and was able to connect to the wifi again, and so far, so good. While trying to troubleshoot the problems with the router, I have read in several different forums about other people having had the same problems with this router and have to power cycle it constantly, some several times a day. Yikes! We haven't even had this second router for a little over 24 hours yet, and when I look up reviews of this model of router, all I find are mostly good reviews. Should I just take the router back and get an entirely different one altogether, like a Linksys?

Check to see if your router has got the latest firmwire installed.

If it is the latest, you might as well return it and get a linksys.

I assume your router is dysfunctional. My first router was an net gear, it didn't work too well either. if reset won't help, and out of warranty, go for a new router. I had a link sys router(very old one), it worked good until it fried(I suggested it too old). If your looking for a new router, you can't go wrong with dlink or link sys, they're router are quite solid performance. I personally prefer dlink.

Currently using D-Link DIR-655, its a good router, but I am getting an upgrade to a newer one.

if your still undecided, try looking up the best router. Hope this helps!

Any wirelss router. i ought to propose not getting a USB adapter in spite of the indisputable fact that if you're using it to connect a computer. USB adapters don't have the prompt variety that a wirelss PCI card.
