1. For the record, it looks like you have a Cisco DPC3939 Gateway (modem+router) device.
2. Let's call "powering something off and then back on" a "restart" or a "power cycle." Let's call "resetting a device" what you do to erase most, if not all of the current configuration.
3. You didn't say why you're trying to get the default name/password. There are 2 types of passwords for a router: a. The Wi-Fi password. b. The ID and password used to get into a router's web configuration screen. Which one are you looking for?
Your router should have its default Wi-Fi info on a sticker located on the bottom of the router.
4. To actually Reset the configuration of your (hopefully new) router -- which is something you should only do if you know how to reconfigure the router from scratch:
- Plug in the power to the device and give it a minute to boot up
- Then using a paper clip, find and hold the RESET button in for **15** seconds to reset the device back to its Factory Defaults.
- When you stop pressing the Reset button your router should reboot again and be restored to its Factory settings.
5. Connect an Ethernet cable between your laptop and one of the router's LAN ports to configure the router. Fire up your browser and surf to: 10.0.0.1 to access your router's web config screens. The Username should be: admin -- and the password should be: password
