What is the difference...............and which one is better? I have an old SMC barricade that is kind of crappy and won't put out very far and has cycling problems.

Also, what is a good brand to go with like Linksys, ASUS, etc.....? I am trying to pick up in my garage/office 60 feet away from my house.

G is the current official standard. All routers listed as N are really "pre-N" or "draft-N" but it is practically a standard and is already in substantial use. N is better than G, but if your laptop has a WiFi G card you will see no improvement. To take advantage of an N router you must have a WiFi N card in your laptop/desktop/whatever. The advantage of N is that it has a wider range as well as higher speeds.

I too have a WRT160N router and I really like it, want to get another one. I would recommend running the DD-WRT unofficial firmware because it adds a ton of awesome features and makes the router more reliable (with the stock firmware I would question giving the WRT160N 3 stars, but with DD-WRT firmware it is a 5 star router, had it crash and reboot on the original firmware for all of the 2 days I used it before upgrading to DD-WRT).

N vs G - N has a stronger range, compared to B/G.

Linksys has worked well for me. I currently use a WRT160N. I can typically pick up signal all around my house (outside the house as well). Not sure if it'll work up to 60 feet. In situations with minimal blockage, I'd say it could - all depends on your environment.

Good luck making the change.

it will improve the speed between the computer and the computer if the computer has a prompt N card. It gained't replace your internet p.c., because G is already speedier than your internet p.c..
