I have IBM ThinkPad X20 laptop and I installed MS XP pro in my laptop. But I can't access even if I connect the cable to my laptop. I think there is problem in drivers. When I go to Device Manager and I see a yellow color question mark below the Network Adapaters says ?other devices and when I click + "Unknown device". The Network adapters is 3Com 10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet Adapter. What should I do? Please help me thank you.

The 'unknown device' could be any number of your network cards. If the X20 has wireless, are the wireless drivers installed? I would guess that neither drivers have been installed. Yes, XP has a ton of drivers and 3Com should be in the list -- but as it's a laptop it's very possible that these are specialized drivers.

Your best bet would be to go to www.lenovo.com (the company that now makes the IBM's) and do a search for the X20 network devices -- you will probably see a long list, however if you know it is a 3Com, use the 3Com drivers.

The best bet I have found for the IBM's is to use the "software downloader"... after you have a working network driver download and use this utility to install the drivers for every device in the laptop.

No problem.

Go here, http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/downloadsindex.jsp

Look for the network adapter you have. If this is an internal adapter, you may find the drivers at www.ibm.com.

Next use another pc. Download the driver onto a USB flash drive or burn to a cd. then copy it to your laptop and install.

You install by double clicking the icon with the yellow question mark and then tell it to look in the folder where you copied the driver.

In some cases, the driver is actually aprogram that will install itself.

if it has a yellow exclamation mark over it in device manager it means the drivers aren't installed. you need to install the drivers for that device

Windows XP should automatically pick up the drivers for 3Com network adapter ...

but if you have the CD for the network adapter ...update the drivers from it.

For drivers try

some times my computer does that, i have wireless and the reason i dont get internet some times is this little swich like button on the frount of my laptop it says WLAN and if its off then i have no connection, it took me forever to figure that out, idk if you have that but if you do check to see if you knocked it into the off position, if so turn it on. Dont know if this helped but at leased i tried!
