There is no simplist way for you if you have no clue what network card is. Ask someone else to do it for you, you will save lot of time and pain for everyone around you including you.
You can use a network cable, either directly or via a hub/switch/router - you need a network card (where the ethernet cable goes) and different type of cable for either connection. And someone who will set it up for you on the networking and sharing level.
You can use wireless, you need a wifi card on both machines and you can again use a direct connection or a router/access point. You don't need a cable, but you need a person who will set up the networking settings for you.
You can use a usb connection, you need a special cable for it with an electronic switcher in the middle (comes with the special cable) and someone who would set up the networking options for you.
You can us a serial or parallel cable, which is found to be on older laptops and all new pcs. You need a COM or LPT cable and someone who would set it up for you, it is easier to set up with specialised software, but Total Commander can work with it nicely.
You can connect via bluetooth, both your machines require a bluetooth card and to stay within 10m of each other, if you use vista, you might be able to st it up yourself, for any other os you will need someone to set it up for you.
You can connect via a mobile phone or telephone line, all you need is two mobile phones or 2 phone lines, you definitely will want someone else to set this up for you.
You can connect via internet, you can share your folders via WebDAV or FTP or SSH or any other internet protocol which the person setting it up for you would choose.
There are also few other weird ways to connect your pretty boxes, but it would be quite hard to find the person who could set them up for you, so I'll spare you ;)
Just GET THAT DAMN PERSON and he/she will deal with it
