Question:
Windows Server?

I have an older computer with 512mb memory and 30gb hard drive. It runs 2000 pro smoothly. My question is what i can do with windows server if I put it on it? Can I set up a roaming profile for all users so within a house they could log on any computer with the same username or password? What would I need to do this? I already have wfi and wired connection. Is Windows Server 2003 capable of doing this? Thanks.

it'd be slow if you were on the local machine...but yah, you can do active directory w/ roaming user profiles etc..

why would you want to on such a small harddrive?

my advice is to leave things as they are. #1 rule with computers is things only break when you fiddle, so don't fiddle!

Try looking at scripting instead. More interesting, more involving, less money, does the job. Or gnu linux running a Samba server = free! Othewise, Server 2003 will do what you want, and you'll pay through the nose, but it is the best Windows OS I've used.

more trouble then its worth the only cool thing about 2000 is any XP Pro or 2000 can connect through terminal services, blah roaming profiles, in most cases just putting the my documents folder on the server is sufficient.

pls check the requirement for Windwos server.

512 MB and 30 GB will be more for Windwos 98 rather that a server
