Is there something wrong with my LAN card or is it my OS?

i'm currently using Winxp SP2 for PC. The problem is, my internet is running very slow most of the times(not always) and sometimes acting weird like it cannot connect to the net though if you're gonna be checking it to"My network places", everything seems to be fine. I even tried to renew the ip. I would have to restart the system for the internet to function properly every time those things happen.

I'm not sure if the problem is with my lan card or my winxp sp2 system or im also thinking of my Avira Premium Security configuration??? =/// :-? :-/ =(( because when i try to connect the cable dsl modem to our laptop, the internet is faster and im having no problems but with the pc, everythings slow and hard to connect.

What could be wrong with the pc????????? Is it the winxp sp2, my pc's lan card, or my antivirus??

I'm thinking that probably my laptop's lan card is just faster than the pc's lan card, so maybe thats why?? =/

Sorry for the veryyyy long explanation and thanks for those who will read.

Please help me guys. I cannot live with a very slow internet connection. =((

Thanks in advance.

It is possible that your LAN card is misconfigured - I'd have a look at the speed settings and duplex options to make sure that there isn't a mismatch between your router and card - best bet is to try in on auto. You should also check your cable for physical damage to make sure that you haven't run over it once to often with your chair!

I would also look at trying an alternative anti-virus product - Avira is good but like all AV products can never be 100% effective and may miss some viruses. You could try Microsoft Security Essentials which is also free and does seem to have a better detection rate from what I've seen of it

Probably one of two things. One, the card/cable is somewhat faulty. Motherboard network cards do act up often.

two, you may still have some malware on your system. Antivirus software only picks out certain things, sometimes missing certain 'new" viruses. I would suggest a full virus scan, followed by a full anti-malware scan (Malwarbytes anti-malware).

After that, try to clean out any junk files on your system with CCleaner:

Some computers get very slow when their browser cache is way too large, causing the system to find and index thousands of useless files.... CCleaner will clear that.

Have you tried updating your drivers?

Might want to also get SP3 on that machine.
