Do I have PPPoE connection?

We are gettinga Vonage telephone today and the guide online says there is additional setup needed for those using PPPoE.

We have a Westell 6100 modem through Verizon and we live in New England (I heard it sometimes matters for PPPoE).

We don't have to login everytime we go onto the internet (like with AOL), but we do have a username and password through Verizon that we use when calling them or when I want to access my Verizon account online.

Does that mean I have a PPPoE connection?

Thanks.

go to your modem settings page.

for example, if your modem IP address is 192.168.1.1, open IE and type the IP in the address bar.

check the page "interface setup" or "authentication setup" or something like that

if you have a box for username and password, and they are already filled, yes, you have Point to Point Protocol Over Ethernet (PPPoE).

if you are using ADSL internet connection, there is no need to check, you already have it !

i believe you will just need an extra switch interface at your local telephony center .

hope this helps ;)

PPOE stands for 'Point-to-Point-Over-Ethernet'. The Westell supports PPOE and many of the phone companies will use that protocol for their high speed (usually DSL) service. In the Control Panel for the modem (accessible through your browser with an address like 192.168.1.1). Look at the PPOE settings if the fields are populated (password would be all stars) more than likely PPOE is being used. Probably a check box is checked too.
