I know I have wireless internet, because my sister got it hooked up to her iPod Touch.
Well, I just bought a laptop (HP dv6t) and I can't figure it out.
I went to a wizard-type thing and it couldn't connect to my network.
Help, please? : )

Make sure the wireless function is on. some hps have that slider thing that turns either orange or blue (mine does) and make sure it is blue. then try it again. if it still doesnt work, u might need a wireless adapter or something. if u have vista the process should be a little easier. Also, try tuning the modem or router off for ten seconds.

Im assuming that you have your wireless card built into your pc, since its a new. I would suggest going to the bottom right section of your pc, and clicking on the internet access icon. It will then tell you if its connected or not. If not, then click on the try to connect tab. If it still doesnt connect, then Windows 7 should ask you to trobleshoot the problem. Do that. And it should tell you why its unable to connect. And follow the instructions. NOTE** You might have to ask someone in your house (The person who pays the internet bill, should have this information ) what your internet access key # is, in order to be allowed to connect.

Step 1:

determine, is your network password protected or not, if it isn't skip to step 3.

Step 2:

enter the password prompted if prompted in step 5.

step 3:

in your task bar, there should be something that looks like 2 monitors and a red x on top of them

step 4:

double click on that icon and find your router, it should be the one with the most "bars."

step 5:

connect, and if prompted for password, enter your network password that you got in step 2, most likely your network is not secured and you will not need to enter a password

step 6:

connect, and access internet, tada

step 7 (weirdo case)

in the case that the icon is not there, you have to click start (the circle thingy), control panel , network connections and look from there

Hey Annie,

You would have a wireless button somewhere in your laptop, If I'm not mistaken it should be at the front, near you jacks.

You'll need to turn it on.

one done, you'll have a pop up on the right hand bottom corner of your monitir, near the date and time prompting you, thre are wireless connection available, would you like to connect.

click on it an choose your wireless network !

You may need the WEP key code to access. Find out the "Name" of the wireless connection and go back to the Connection Wizard. Find the same name/number, highlight that one and hit "Next". If the WEP key is needed, it'll ask for it. Type it in "Exactly as needed". Hit "Next" and it'll do the rest.

Go to start. Connect to. Then choose a Wireless Internet signal. Then you're online.

in the beginning, if your contemporary router isn't on the spot, you will might desire to interchange it with a on the spot router. that is going to look reminiscent of a non-on the spot router different than it could have antennas popping out of it. probability is that in case you got a clean computer it already has a on the spot card put in in it. If no longer, you will might desire to purchase a on the spot card for the computer. See the folk at bestbuy or yet another computer save for the best on. After those 2 issues have been remedied, you will possibly desire to be set for the internet. stir up the computer and it is going to come across your on the spot community.

try going closer to the wifi router.... that might help..... im guessing the router doesnt have any passwords or w.e on it like a WEP key?

most times the reason it wont connect is so stupid and insignificant that just turning the modem and router on and off again will fix the problem... trying turning your laptop on and off too
