I have an atheros wireless card in my Acer Aspire 5520, and I am tired of trying to connect wirelessly with it, i'm not very technologicallly savy, and I think, at this point, the best thing would be to simply take out my atheros and switch to a card that Ubuntu 8.04 will recognize right out of the box.
What wireless card should i switch to that will not require me to rip out my hair in order to connect?

Here is the Official Ubuntu Wireless Documentation
people shop asking this question each and every of the time right here. base line is that if it doesnt artwork out of the container will possibly not artwork. Ubuntu has an somewhat limited variety of instant enjoying cards that's by using the fact American rules forbid the inclusion or serverely limits the inclusion of proprietary drivers in unfastened linux. somebody reported NDISWrapper certainly would artwork yet why not use the proprietary linux drivers. Ubuntu is an superb little linux helping many languages inspite of the undeniable fact that it fairly is extremely limited in what it grants we sense. we've a extreme end paid linux and it works OUT OF THE container with Dell (broadcom) Acer (Atheros) or Intel enjoying cards. The previous asserting could be real right here you get what you paid for and Ubuntu is unfastened... you may attempt Linux Mint it comes with an somewhat limited selection of proprietary drivers... The only safe bet is an INTEL card. It is NOT the card you should swithch from BUT THE LINUX DISTRO. Try an top of the line paid linux distro. We have computer that run Mandriva PowerPack WITH ATHEROS CARDS and actually Acer netbooks and the wireless works flawlessly. Why? Cause we use Mandriva Power Pack on our netbooks cost less than 100$ and comes WITH ALL THE PROPRIETARY drivers, read mp3, windows media, dvds, flac, ogg worbis, midi files, avi, most apple products.
You get what you paid for free linux = el cheapo linux
GOOD LUCK

You will have the same problem with the new one. Just install the drivers for it or get Win7 so you will have a good computer instead of a toy.
