Hello all,
I have recently formatted my PC and install Norton anti-virus. my system was working good after the installation, while now it is too slow and when I check the Performance and PF usage. the PF usage was going up and reach at 1.03GB. the after a long time it came down and set on 472MB. Meanwhile there was a Norton alert popping up saying that 'Auto protect has blocked Downloader' the security risk was high!. I did not visit any sites other than Yahoo! and MSN. Then how this Downloader (virus) happen to be there? another alert was 'A browser exploit at answer.yahoo.com was blocked' how come this too?
In addition, I have shared my connection with 10 other computers via a 16 port switch. Once some of my friends couldn't connect to the internet while others could. however at connection notification area it shown 100mbps. then i ping the default gateway from cmd. i got no reply. Then I remove all connections from the switch and reconnect one by one. Then i found when i connect a particular computer others can't use internet. What might be the reason. is there any spyware, virus or something? can that be transferred from one PC to another PC through my network? if there is, how can I fix this problem now and what can I do not to happen it again in future.

My OS is XP sp3, Norton Anti-viruss, Band width is 512Kb.

The pagefile (virtual memory) gets used when there's not enough physical memory in the machine. If your pagefile consistently gets used a lot you need to add more memory to your machine.

probable a virus. however the beeping is a sign from the BIOS that something is incorrect. consistent strings of beeps recommend, regularly, are the two indicators for RAM memory subjects or your workstation is overheating. Now given which you're getting those while your CPU utilization skyrockets, i may well be extra approximately have faith which you have become an overheat. user-friendly fixes are installation small 80mm followers to pass air. (intake and exhaust trend) additionally make constructive that there is no longer something blocking off any of the air flow grills on the case. whether its no longer overheating that's inflicting your issues, making those additions will nevertheless postpone the existence of your workstation.

The downloader isn't necessarily malicious, norton will look for suspicious behavior from software but that doesn't mean it is a virus.
