Ok so a couple months ago i bought FIOS from verizon and found out that i can connect 4 computers with an ethernet cable to it. So i got my old computer and my new computer and connected them both to the router through an ethernet cable. Then weeks later my new computer starts crashing and i was wondering, can a virus travel thought the old computer's ethernet cable through the router and into my new computer?(Both are Windows XP if that makes any diffrence)
Thank You

Yes in theory. Depending on how a virus is designed it is quite possible for it to infect any computer that is connected to the same network. If your new computer has up to date anti-virus then it should of stopped something like this happening.

Some viruses are smart enough to travel through a network from computer to computer. Get yourself a good AV program.

However, the crashing of the one computer could be a hardware problem and not a virus.

No they are not networked, because of sharing a similar internet connection. you could community them by utilising the living house windows set up community wizard, flow to living house windows help and carry on with classes. Or once you're feeling very adventurous learn installation a unix server!!

There's a Firewall in the router, so in theory, no. But if you talk to another computer via the router, then possibly yes.

But you are running good anti-malware on all machines, aren't you?

Yes and they can potentially spread through any tranferable media such as pen drives
