Magic jack problem: no audio for outgoing calls - can't make a call?

Hi.

I'm using a wireless router (Belkin wireless G router) between the cable modem and the computer.
I have no sound on my magicjack on outgoing calls, while no problems with incoming calls.

Once I connect the computer directly to the cable modem I'm using, it works fine and I can make calls.

This means that I can receive calls when connected to the router. To actually make a call, I have to plug my laptop directly to the cable modem. When I do that, every other computer on the LAN gets disconnected since my cable modem has only one port... it's really not handy.

So, my problem seems to be the wireless router, which blocks outgoing calls.

On the router, I tried to turn the firewall off, QoS on or off doesn't change anything.

Any ideas out there? Should I buy another router? Will magicjack work with another router?

Your router is blocking outgoing connections from the magic jack. Magic jack works on the following ports UDP 5061, TCP 80 and TCP 443. Look at the documentation on your firewall to open the ports to allow outgoing connections on these ports.





@quermess Firewall and router are 2 different things turning off your firewall doesn't stop the router from blocking connections so please don't be hasty to criticize. So if you said that those connections are open (which you might want to double check) then either your router is blocking voip or you have some other issue. I would contact magic jacks customer assistance (http://www.magicjack.com/techchat/)

You did open the ports on your router not your computer correct? The router configuration is found at the web address 192.168.1.1 or sometimes 192.168.0.1



@quermass unfortunately without actually seeing the computer and your setup I'm not sure what else could be wrong. Only other thing I could think is that you have a software that might have a firewall in it. I know you disabled windows firewall(You can set it to allow magic jack through instead of totally disabling it btw) but maybe your antivirus has one that you might have missed. Another option(I have no clue if this would help fyi!) would be start your computer in safe-mode with networking and try the magic jack. If it connects then something on your computer is blocking outgoing connections. Sorry I can't be more help email if you have any ?'s

Your equipment (computer, magic jack usb stick) are probably all working fine. Magic Jack "oversubscribes", and its their problem. Oversubscribing is when a company has more customers than lines/equipment. Lets say (these numbers are examples, not specific to magic jack) that they have 100 customers, and 10 outgoing lines, most of the time that works because its rare that more than 10 customers will be making calls at the same time, but, if there are already 10 customers using it, and you are number 11, then your call won't complete.

My MagicJack has a similar problem.



It was working fne until I got a renewal notice and I responded. I got an acknowledgment notice from Magic Jack and the next time I went to use the magic Jack, I could not hear the party I was calling.

Had the same problem, yesterday, I spend 2 hours chatting with a MJ technicians, including a supervisor, and nothing. Today, I went back to the website account manager. I clicked on "call features" tab, then "advance settings," and there it was, an option to limit the calls for:



1. elect to accept outgoing and incoming service:



2. elect to accept incoming service only



3. elect to accept outgoing service only



and guess what? I had it on option 2. So I switch it to option and now MJ is fully functional.
