No matter what I do, or what ethernet card I use, the connection comes back with limited or no connectivity.
I used ultimate boot cd and firefox works in that, so I know the hardware is good.
I did a repair install and it still comes back like that. what the heck do i try next?

The internet works on my other 3 computers AND this computer, if i use ultimate boot cd. So its not an ISP or hardware issue. I did find out last night that the E-Jack on the Motherboard broke, so i tried 2 new LAN cards and they booth work with the boot cd but not in windows.

I've been fixing computer for 4 years, and i would consider this is an advanced problem. The internet WORKS in my home, the computer just wont get an ip from the router. My guess would be a virus, since i have removed all the firewall software and that problem remains.

Try swapping the patch cord you are using with one used on one of the other PC's

Confirm the settings on the NIC (Network Card) you are using. Try forcing it to be 100M half duplex or 10M half duplex. Some cards do not play well with certain brands of ethernet switches.

Last ditch effort...do not use DHCP on this PC. Just assign IP address, subnet mask, gateway and dns manually.

Make sure you are not pluggin it into an uplink port on the switch.

OSX Server is genuine UNIX and many the belongings you're speaking about consisting of DHCP, DNS, all began on Unix lengthy formerly residing house windows even existed so certain. What you'll want nonetheless is OSX server no longer only OSX. you are able to get OSX Server on a Mac Mini lately. Apple does no longer run lively listing yet Apple machines can use area aspects. something outdoors of Microsoft is a applicable LDAP server. back it is genuine UNIX so for sure it does DNS, record, DHCP. Now app certain yet OSX apps. Switches are layer 2 so do not quite care what the heck you plug as a lot as them. A swap would not understand or care what OS a gadget has. community segmentation isn't dealt with by utilizing your pcs or connected gadgets yet by utilizing a layer 2 or3 swap that does VLAN certain, you are able to run VM's on it. seem at VMWare Fusion, Parallels, and digital container

double check the network settings. have you made sure that machine is set up for DHCP and does not have an IP address set statically?
