Hi i m new to Linux world i just want to test it for networking OK
I'm trying to set the LAN interface entering the IP address ,Mask ,Gateway ,and ofcorse Dns.
in windows it s simple we manually or automatic apply and it s done.But in Ubuntu i think is not .i manged to enter the IP address ,and it s Mask but Dns is still an issue for me to enter it ,and configure the Dns server on my Ubuntu client interface.
i ve heard that it can be done on the client ubuntu machine via terminal usin commands

You can use Google to find out much more information.

You should try using Samba Shares if this does not help.

The DNS usually is automatic or Linux does a search and finds the DNS automatically.

Are you trying to set up your interface using the command line or the GUI and this this a wireless LAN or a wired LAN?

8.04 is a really old release, it isn't even supported anymore I think.



You should have more luck with a newer release, such as 10.04 or 10.10.



I don't recommend 11.04 yet, it is brand new and seem to have a lot of bugs still.
