How do you configure a WIFI Router?

I purchased an APC WiFi router and am having trouble configuring it. It is supposedly a simple three step process. The instructions are:

1. Connect the power cord (done)
2. Connect the cable modemto the LAN/WAN port (I connected it to the LAN/WAN port on the DSL box)
3. In address line enter 192.168.2.1. and press enter. The system will load the login screen.

Number three does not happen. Nothing loads. My daughter needs her lap top connected to the internet, and I am a computer moron and of course the company is only open Monday-Friday. Any help is appreciated!

Hmmm..... Interesting.... that little toy looks to be wireless ONLY. Never heard of such a thing. The instructions do not mention it, but before you can browse into the router you will have to connect to it wirelessly. If WiFi is enabled on your computer you should be able to click on the icon and connect to the APC WiFi ... it will be the strongest, possibly only signal you are getting and should be wide open, no WEP set. But you don't connect automatically to whatever open access point is around, that would be silly. You have to tell your computer it is allowed to connect to the APC.

I hope you know how you connect to your DSL, DHCP or PPPoE or Whatever.

Why did you get that instead of a router with Ethernet LAN ports as well?

Hook up the WAN/LAN to the dsl box

Then use another network cable and plug it into Port 1 behind the router to your desktop

should be able to log into the router if not

Reset the Router (usually a Small little button somewhere on it and you need a pin to push it)

Wait a minute

If still no luck

unplug dsl box

unplug router

Turn off computer

Once Everything is off

Plug in DSL box...wait 30sec

Plug in router..wait 30 sec

Turn pc back on and it should work

then punch in IP adress and configure router (using instructions)

and your gonna have to use the Username and password your ISP gave you and setup the router as PPPOE if you got DSL

If all you have is a lappy and no extra network cable then connect to the WIFI connection with the lappy

and then you can enter IP info and configure

cmd> ipconfig /all for the wireless adapter find your default gateway, and put that number into your web browser and there you can configure your settings
