Recenly migrated accounts to a new excahnge server, and when users are launching outlook it is not coming up. Can ping the IP, but not the DNS. When adding the new server name into Outlook, it recognizes the name and is underlined. Still does not open. Gives default folders option, but will not open inbox. Try putting in IP address instead of server name, and when hitting "check name", recognizes, but reverts the server name back to DNS.

Sounds like you may have (2) Servers listed in System Manager. Check it out, if you do, I bet all the users are still on the older server, or at least their logins. If you don't need the older server dump it and get it out of AD.

Also, the System Attendent mailbox can be create havox. Do a little research on using ADSIEDIT to fix it.

Try these options:

1. Make sure your windows clients are part of the active directory

2. Enable WINS on the mail server and clients

3. Make sure the mail server is in the Active Directory

4. Make sure there is an "A" entry in the DNS for the mail server

If the clients aren't in AD, you won't be able to logon to the domain, so I think DNS is broke. Make sure the exchange host is correctly configured in DNS, and no one uses WINS anymore, it was awful.

The hosts may have out-dated DNS cache too, try "ipconfig /flushdns" before setting up Outlook.
