Well, I have BSNL Broadband internet connection. I have a Desktop PC, and a notebook.
What I want to do is that I should be able to access the internet (through the Broadband) wirelessly by my laptop. If needed, I should also be able to access the internet (with same broadband connection) by my Desktop PC. Can you tell me how?
Please mention the hardware needed to set up the network too.
Thanx!

You have to purchase a Wireless Router. It will cost you around 3000 rupees. Through this router you can connect 4 desktops and laptops wirelessly.

Plugin the LAN cable from BSNL router to Wireless router. Install the CD of wireless router (it comes along with the router) on your desktop and configure the modem as per instructions.

Switch on your laptop and enable wireless connection. It will automatically detect the signal. Press connect for the first time and from next time onwards, it automatically connects.

Enjoy!

if you have broadband your internet provider should provide you with a modem and wireless cards if you dont already have computers with them, you cant just access the internet using wireless without going thru an internet provider....give them a call, they may not even offer wireless depending on where you live, but that is what you need, a wireless modem, two wireless cards, and one wont work for both becuz the one for the desktop will be different than the one for the laptop because most laptops have a wireless slot in them already, that is what they were designed for ...........almost forgot, each company has their own software they will have to install too, to make their cards and modems be able to work

Does your Modem connect to the PC using a USB or a LAN cable..

If its lan cable go to any comp shop and buy a Linksys Wireless Router.. (It has a LAN Jack for Modem, 4 Ethernet ports and a Wireless Access Point)

configure the Linksys Product as per your login id and password for net access, and configure the wireless access point for your laptop / pc

And you are done,

(Off course you will have to have some background knowledge on configuring windows network parameters..)

I have done the same at my place as well, took me 2-3 hrs using manuals and some help on phone from my friends..

Hope this helps..

And yes If its USB then I think you will have to get some Professional help.. or change the modem...

You need to buy a wireless router (linksys is the best i think) you can get it any where for like 50$ or 60$ for speed booster. Then you need to install the software and then plug it in (directions come with it). Then after thats all done you need to write down the network key which is assigned or go to your router settings online and change the password (call linksys and they will walk you through step by step). This should allow only the computers you give the password to to go online. Good Luck!!

Also most laptops come with a wireless card in them but you should check first, if not then linksys also has a wireless card for laptops.

Hello Boss

Well all u need is a wireless router which is available in any terch shop. ask him for a wireless router or simply a router, better go for one like Linksys or Intex, connect it to the modem or Router given by the BSNL broadband service or anyother service you use. Then setup it on ur laptop... hurray... u r ready to use wireless internet. and if u need the same connection for ur PC use a connnection wire as in a modem from ur PC to that router ( any router has min. 4 to 5 slots) instead of the way u generally put it to modem.

you need to set up a wireless router to your computer and a wireless pci card for your laptop, perferably the same brands. Also find a copy of network magic. It helps detecting the router and pci card, easy to use and really fast.

Let's cover what you need to get Internet access to more than one computer at home, via wireless LAN.

1. You order or use your existing Cable or DSL Internet access.

2. Your Cable or DSL company sets up your Internet access and typically either rents or sells you a Cable or DSL "modem".

Prices for Cable or DSL Internet access vary from approximately $19 per month to $80 per month in the United States. This varies based on bandwidth, location, and provider.

At this point you have what is commonly called Broad Band Internet access.

Now you want to share that high speed connection with more than one system or you want to be able to cart your laptop all over the house and stay connected to the internet.

1. Confirm that your system has a wireless adapter or get one and install it. You need one of these for each computer.

2. Get a wireless router. I recommend the D-Link Dir-655. Get D-Link n series Adapters if you get the D-Link wireless router.

3. Plug the wireless router directly into the Cable or DSL "modem" via an Ethernet cable.

4. Unplug the electrical cord from your Cable or DSL "modem" for 30-45 seconds.

5. Plug the power cable back in.

6. Check the Cable or DSL "modem" for green lights.

7. Make sure that the properties of TCP/IP are set to Obtain IP address automatically, and obtain DNS automatically on ALL of your computers.

8. Turn on or reboot your system(s).

Now you should be able to stay connected to the Internet with all of your computers.

If you can not access the Internet from every computer:

Attempt to log in to your wireless router via your web browser (internet exploder or Firefox) by typing in http://192.168.1.1/

Then log in using admin and admin typically. Be sure to change the password to something of your own choosing.

Enable DHCP by following the instructions in the manual for your wireless router.

You only need one wireless router for you wireless LAN. One wireless router can potentially accomodate up to 253 wireless computers. My wireless router only has MAC tables for up to 32 devices.

For extra security:

1. Don't announce the SSID of your wireless router.

2. Use WPA2 if you can. WPA-PSK if not, or WEP at the least.

3. Put the MAC addresses of all of your computers into the MAC routing table of your wireless router and ONLY ALLOW from the addresses in the table of the wireless router.

4. Turn the SPI firewall of the wireless router ON.

5. Filter anonymous or incomplete packets.

My advise is to talk to your Internet provider to just what they offer and shop for the best deal for you.Shop around for the best deal for YOU!
