Hi! I live in a dorm and we have cable internet that doesnt require any modem (you just plug the cable into your pc and have internet access). I bought a wireless router and I see the Installation Guide says it should be used with a modem. Can I use this router to distribute my internet connection through wifi without a modem? If so do I need to plug the internet cable in the "Modem" plug or in a "Wired" plug? Thanks!

Ignore the guide from the manufacturer. Their instructions include the most common scenario. A modem isn't necessary. Plugin the ethernet cable between the wall and the Internet port on the router and you should be good to go.

It sounds to me that your wireless router assumes there is a modem because you need a modem to translate the data from your cable internet for the pc to understand.

So if the case is you have no modem in your dorm, simply unplug the Ethernet cable from your pc and plug that into the port on the back of the wireless modem that should say "internet".

From there follow the instructions that came with your wireless router and you should be good to go.

YES! Absolutely! Look the back or your router. You will have a power connection, a reset button (hopefully in a tiny hole that you need a paperclip to poke), four LAN Ethernet ports, and the WAN Ethernet port.

Connect a Ethernet cable from the "Internet" jack in the wall to the WAN port of your router. Connect a Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports to the LAN port of your Laptop. Boot up I.E. or Chrome or whatever, check your manual and find to connect to your router.

On the configuration of the router, set the WAN for DHCP. Set up your security for your WiFi. Done.
