Question:
Whenever I try to repair my connection, it fails and says there's an invalid IP?

I repair it, and when it's renewing the IP address, it says it's invalid. Then all of a sudden, there's a connection, but it says it's "peer to peer". It seems like I'm connected to only one IP address, which presents a problem because this IP address is always conflicting with other users, so I constantly disconnect and have really slow internet. So I try to repair the connection so it'll get another IP address, but it never does, it always connects to this "peer to peer" connection, and there's always an IP address conflict and an invalid IP. What's going on?

If the ip address your getting is 169.X.X.X. It sounds like your DHCP is not set correctly or not working. Do you have a router installed on your network.

If you do check the configuration to make sure that the DHCP service is enabled. You may have to reboot the router to reset the DHCP.

If you do not have a router. do you have a DHCP server on the network. check to make sure that this computers DHCP is configured and running.

If neither one is connected to your network then you need to manual key the ip information into each computer. post again if you need help setting static IP addresses.

a few things to check. 1. If you;re using a router, does the router have an IP from the internet provider? 2. What is your IP? (192.168. what= private ip, 169. what = no ip from router) 3. ensure you're service wasn't cancelled 4. you can find out your ip by clicking start>run> type cmd then press enter 5. this is the DOS prompt. type ipconfig/all (this will list all your network adapters and list IP, DSN, gateway, etc here

1. Go to Start>Run

2. In the box that pops up in the bottom-left corner type CMD and click OK.

3. A black DOS looking box will pop up.

4. Type this line and then press enter:

IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

5. Type this line and then press enter:

IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS

If that doesn't do anything try these two:

IPCONFIG /RELEASE

IPCONFIG /RENEW

Then repeat the other two again:

IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS

If this still doesn't work you have a static IP address set and it is invalid.

I dont know but I have a linksys router and i just click the secure easy set up and it does it automaticly. sorry but i dont know about your set up options. It may have been you changed the adress and it dosent recognise it. Go on the computer that has the router (if have one) and copy down the IP addres. Then put it on your wireless computer.

coming from experience..open up DOS prompt-->type in "IPCONFIG/Renew"

Then type in "IPCONFIG/REFRESH"

should be problem solved!
