If you have the same provider but move to a different state, does your IP change?

I'll be moving from Massachusetts to south florida and using the same provider down there when I get there..

What these guys are saying is half true.

There are 2 types of IP address, internal and external.

You have an IP address that is given to you by your router, and one where your router goes out to the public on given by your ISP (Internet Service Provider), a public IP address

The IP address on your PC does not have to change as long as the router allows you to have that address. You can set that statically in Windows.

The IP address the Router goes out to External will change when you move home. I wouldnt bother trying to get that set statically.

So depending what IP address you need and what you need it for depends what you need to check or configure. If it is your PC IP address, chances are, with a bit of config you could set it the same.

Thanks

Yes. Ip changes even you dont move. ISP give you ip temporarly using a server called DHCP. Which leases you an Ip for some time and take it back. So it will definatley change if you move. And it can even change when you disconnect and reconnect. Unless you purchased a static ip which costs more.
