By the way next time you ask a question on Yahoo! or anywhere else make sure you include more details for example the routers model name like say a D-Link DIR-300 and a Dell Inspiron. This ensures more accurate answers from the community. Ok, is the router B, G, A or N, or if more than one which ones is it. This will be on the box of the router usually at the bottom corner on the front face of the box (the face with the picture of the product aswell as the model name, etc...). If it is B and G then i don't see a real problem, just go into the router configuration (192.168.0.1 by default) and make sure that in the advanced settings it is set to G Only Mode, this means that laptops connecting via wireless cannot slow the network down for others when they connect via B. If the router is for some reason sending out A signals then it is going to slow down the network considerably when someone logs onto the network wirelessly. But if the network is still really slow when no one is connected via wireless and you are plugged into the ROUTER via a LAN port then it is a problem with the router itself. Go into the router configuration and on the WAN page you should have the choice of Dynamic IP Address, Static IP Address, BigPond, Pppoe and someother things. Choose Dynamic IP Address unless of course you are with BigPond, in which case you will need to authorise the router to shut them up. Then apply the changes (if it was not already configured this way) and let it restart. If still when plugged in and/or wirelessly it is slow as ever, i would either return it to the shop after checking with a knowledgable salesman (hard to find these days) and ask them what could be causing the problem and provide them WITH THE MODEL OF THE ROUTER AND THE COMPUTER ASWELL AS YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER (ISP) AND INTERNET SPEED. Then they will give you their view on it. If it sounds like it is the router and a fault with it then i would return it personally, then get a really good one N is the way to go these days as it ensures maximum speed as well as compatibility with all computers that are wireless enabled. Hope this helps, Lucas, BlueBind Technology. Email me if you need a hand, and/or to let me know what happens.

Speed Up Dlink Router

First of all, it's really unlikely that you've got a 100mbps internet connection. Probably what your ISP meant is that the LAN port on the DSL or Cable Modem is 100 Mbps. So when you connect your wireless router to the DSL/Cable Modem, they will talk at 100Mbps. Unfortunately, on the other side of the DSL/Cable modem the speed is going to be more like 2-6 Mbps. (The only exception to this is if you have Fiberoptic/FiOS service -- then you might get 50 Mbps.) So, assuming you've got everything running at once: iPhones, xbox 360, and your desktop computer, it is possible that you will see some slowdown in performance, but only if you're doing something like downloading big media files on all the devices at once. Otherwise, you'll never notice the difference.
