First, identify your connection's top speed to overseas IPs. Make sure to do this late at night, or some other off-peak time. Go to http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and click a city, then see what speeds you're getting. You should expect that speed to be the most you will get usually, unless there is someone seeding the torrent from somewhere closer to you.

Second, try these instructions to put your PC in the DMZ on your modem. I have read that your ISP is using a custom firmware on that modem that disables port forwarding, which is terrible. But you can get around it. Know that by doing this, your PC will no longer be behind a firewall and other ports may be open to attack. Make sure to set an administrator account password in XP and use a software firewall like zonealarm.

To set up DMZ:

1. Navigate to your router setup (http://192.168.1.1)

2. Navigate to ‘Advanced Setup>NAT>DMZ Host’

3. Enter your local IP Address (e.g. 192.168.1.101, use ipconfig command to check it) and click Save/Apply. Modem does not require reboot.

4. Quit and restart uTorrent.

If you STILL have bad speeds, try jumping on a torrent you know has tons of seeds all over the world. Something like the latest ubuntu distribution: http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.10/ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent If that does go fast, maybe you are just on a poorly-seeded torrent.

How To Increase Torrenting Speed

Since you have formatted you computer system so when you boot your computer try MS Configuration........

This is just to uncheck the unwanted programs that you are disabling........It will somehow increase your internet speed ...

Well speed of internet downloading is concerned with many factors.....

To enhance you internet speed just simply check with your Internet service provider about Internet connection options. The speed of your Internet connection is the most significant variable to your download speed. If you have dial-up Internet access, consider upgrading to a Direct Service Line (DSL) or a cable connection. Even if you already have cable, your Internet service provider may have faster cable services available.

Close any open programs you do no need when downloading. This will free up your computer's resources to better handle the data transfer. If possible, have your computer download the files you need while you are away from the computer.

Prioritize your downloads. Download only the files you really want first and start other downloads later. The more files you download simultaneously, the slower the files download.

Try downloads at different times of the day. The more people who are downloading the same file, the slower the file downloads for everyone. If you are experiencing a slow download, try it at a different time of day when fewer people might be trying to download the same file.

Install Download Accelerator. Download Accelerator is a program that optimizes your computer's download capabilities. It not only increases the speed of your downloads, it helps you manage them. When you begin downloading a file, Download Accelerator saves the file so that you can resume downloading it later if necessary. To get Download Accelerator, go to the Download website, search for Download Accelerator, click "Download Now" and follow the directions.

Try these settings->>>>

Open up the network connection profile and edit TCP/IP settings. In the DNS server address fields, specify the following DNS server addresses: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Disconnect the connection and then connect again. You are done.

This specifies third party DNS servers which are significantly faster than BSNL Dataone’s DNS servers.
