Why is my connection speed 100mb/s but when I download something, the download speed is only like 40-50 kb/s? Is there a way to make my download speed higher?

Your connection speed to the internet is NOT 100mbps, that is only your ethernet adapter link speed to your modem/router. The link to the internet is determined by your ISP package...

You can only speed up your link by buying a faster service.

First of all, check your actual speed at:

www.speedtest.net

and compare the mbps from the test with what you have purchased from your ISP. Be careful not to confuse MBytes/sec downloads with mbits/sec link speed, there are 8 bits to a byte (mbits/8=mbytes)

Your connection speed is determined by the network card and the internet service provider. It only means that it is capable of 100 mb/s. Average d/l speeds of 40 - 50 kb/s is slower than you should be, but you are not that far behind. Generally you should be able to d/l at up to 90 kb/s, sometimes better if you ISP has a speed booster included with your service. Then you'll get up to 110 kb/s. Where you will see the fastest speeds, although you won't realize it, is in how fast pages refresh or how smoothly your online games play. I hope this helps.

Get a faster ISP, your connection speed is the rate at which the ethernet cord is transferring data, your actual internet speed will vary

That is your Local area network speed and that is the maximum speed your network card can reach. What your ISP gives you will not be 100Mbps. If your ISP gives you a 8Mbps connection, your speed will be around there. 8Mbps stands for 8 mega bits per sec. and not 8MBps (8 mega bytes per sec).

40-50KBps and not 40-50kbps. It is case sensitive. b = bits, B = bytes.

1 byte = 8 bits.

Contact your ISP for a better connection plan.
