I set a Linksys wireless router up on a regular computer, got it to work and my laptop picked up the signal, good strength and everything, but now it won't let me do anything online even though it says it's connected. I'm not working offline either. What the heck?

Got a third party firewall installed? Try disabling it / uninstalling it. This is always a firewall issue!!! Windows XP & Vista has a firewall already installed. Use it. It never causes this problem. But Nortons firewall, Mcafee firewall, Zone Alarm firewall, CA Internet suite firewall, etc.. all do this from time to time. Third party firewalls just are not necessary when you have windows XP or vista. They usually end up doing crazy things like what you are experiencing!!!!!

Did you statically set ur LAN IP address on ur wireless adapter. If you do so please let the DHCP handle the IP by setting it to Obtain IP automatically. Cause in wireless enviroment, different router might have different IP configuration. Or the other problem is u have 2 router running together, ur modem might be running as a router and the wireless router also running as a router. BTW, did a technician help u to set up.......?

have you recently made any changes in your router configurations such as *changing encryption type * changing the wi-fi password? *changing an SSID if yes then go to Start and type "Manage Saved Networks" and hit enter. On the left panel of that window click "Manage Wireless Networks" then select your network, right click on it and "Remove Network". Then turn OFF the wi-fi on your laptop by using the switch and turn it ON again.Wait until your lappy finds your wi-fi .You will need to type the password again.

try connecting to the router through your ethernet cabling while having your wireless turned off. if that doesn't work then you know your router isn't configured properly and you might need to read the setup instructions. if your ethernet works then try right clicking your wireless connection and click repair.
