What is the purpose of remote access and what are some advantages/disadvantages of organizations allowing employees to work at other locations then just an office?

Remote access. Basic Idea: You do not have to walk over to a machine to work on it. Works fine for non-hardware issues.

Advantages:

a. Cost savings. What is the cost of someone coming over?

b. Motivation: Why travel all over the place.

c. Can be used at all hours (if PC's are switched on).

Disadvantages:

a. Can be insecure. (Since all organizations use remote access it is evident that it can be aceptably secure).

b. Requires training on the soft skills (it is technically possible to take over the keyboard, mouse etc. but if you do that unannounced, how would you feel??)

c. Can lead to unrealistic planning (we do not have to travel anymore) and epectations..

Companies who want to allow employees remote access often still use VPN's (Virtual Private Networks). These are expensive but good.

Loads of information available.

In fact remote desktop access is a great option for a variety of realms.

Letting employees work remotely icreases their motivation.

The problem is to find remote desktop software easy and practical enough for this goals.

I would recommend trying remote desktop software Aeradmin which is very easy to use and naturally a zero-config app.

Hope it helps.
