Hi all,

So I've been having this problem for a while now. For some reason my laptop is unable to connect to any wireless internet providers. When I scroll over the wireless connection icon on the bottom right, wireless networks show up but when I try to connect to them, I am given this message: "The connection was unsuccessful". When I click on the Troubleshoot problems tab, it says "Problems found: The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running". I've tried clicking the Try these repairs as an administrator, but I get the same message about the diagnostics policy service not running.

I've tried going to hp.com and I downloaded the drivers and installed all of them but one (5 out of the 6). The one that won't install is the one titled Software Support for HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology for Microsoft Windows 7. I've tried downloading it on several different computers using several different flash drives but once the driver is on my laptop, it is unable to install and shows the message "The contents of this file cannot be unpackaged. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again".

I've already taken it to BestBuy and had them look at it, but they were quoting me between $200-250 to fix it. They also said they would more likely wipe it (since the system restore isn't working -- the restore point is not set far enough back). I've tried wiping it myself but I haven't had any luck. After choosing to wipe it and being asked to install the Windows 7 disc, it did not accept it and said the reinstallation couldn't be done. I'm not sure if this is because the Windows 7 disc is not the one that came with my laptop (It's my fathers).

If anyone has any insight on this problem, I would greatly appreciate it! This whole thing has been a nightmare and I start graduate classes in a week so I want to get this figured out! :)

Where did you get the inane notion WIFI had anything to do with wireless internet service to begin with? WIFI is simply someones wireless network and unless it's an open network, you can't connect to it anyway. You have to be within 50 feet of it in the first place even if it is open. The only problem is your total lack of knowledge in the matter. If you want WIFI in your home, you need an existing internet service with a wireless modem or wireless router. Some restaurants, cafes, and fast food joints provide connection to their internet but you have to be there to use it. If you want wireless internet service, you pay for it period. This service runs through cell towers and is NOT WIFI.

Edit: Even an open connection can't be connected to if they use mac address filtering. Secondly, unless you have at least a 50% connection, you probably can't connect either. To find out if you're actually having a problem, go to a known open connection like mcdonalds. If it works, you have no WIFI problem. I didn't misread anything. You on the other hand didn't post the question so people could understand it. See if you can understand this. DO YOU HAVE YOUR OWN INTERNET SERVICE AND A HOME WIFI NETWORK? Your question CLEARLY points out you haven't a clue what you're doing.

Edit: Calling names in emails will get you nowhere. Secondly, you act as if we're supposed to be able to read minds in here on top of being able to muddle through your feeble attempt at a question. Don't blame me for your ineptitude in properly phrasing a detailed question.

Uninstall anything related to that wireless device including drivers. Restart and see if windows installs it properly.

Then read through this thread if needed:
