Does the number of users sharing one DSL modem affect the internet connection?

I have a DSL modem here in my flat with 4 ethernet ports. My flatmates want to share the modem with me but is it going to affect the connection or the speed?

It all depends on how much they downloading etc I have 3 uses on my ADSL and i hardly notice the difference when the other 2 are using it , it also depends on how good your connection is too but for general web browsing it should be fine

The speed is not affected by the amount of users connected to the port but if two or more users are on the internet at the same time using the modem then the connection may slow depending on the Size of the page(s) that each computer is loading , but if one person is on at a time the connection shouldn't be slowed.

I am on a modem right now and my dad is using the other computer for who knows what... I notice no difference as long as he doesn't pull up to many windows.



*Note the computer in the first port has priority over the other computers.

Because you have to upload the video to 8 people instead of 2. Image you had a cake, and you wanted to share it between 10 people, that's ok there's enough cake to go around, now try sharing it be 400 people, you will notice that you either need more cake or less people. Same thing here, you have a limited upload bandwidth, and it cannot be practically shared between 8 people.

yes it is going to affect the speed.. depending on wat they are doing.. if they are downloading then yah the connection going to slow down sinc eyou are sharing the connection.. the reason the connection is going to slow down, because since they are download all the bandwith is being taken by one computer.. so all the other computers will slow down.. hope this helps..
