How can I fix my modem issues?

I currently have a Motorola SB5101 cable modem that is connected to a Linksys E1200 wireless router. Connected to the router is a desktop, an Xbox 360 and various wireless devices. On a daily basis, the modem will timeout, usually upwards of 25 times a day. These timeouts last anywhere from 1-90 minutes, sometimes even longer; and are usually quite frequent. There will be full days where I will not be able to connect to the internet.

The issue seems to only happen during the day though, usually around midnight the modem will stop timing out and I will be able to connect without interruption. Even more strangely, it seems to occur much more often in the summer months. I've had a similar issue with a modem in the past, and replacing it with the SB5101 seemed to fix the issue; but now the issues has returned.

I have called my cable company, Timewarner, about the issue before and they usually send a technician who achieves nothing or say the connection is fine. My knowledge of these sorts of things is very limited, but I checked my GUI to see if I could find anything out of the ordinary. In the Logs section I saw frequent "No Ranging Response recieved - T3 time-out (US 1)" messages. The US 1 part varies with different numbers, but this timeout message is filling the log; along with a few "Modem is Shutting Down and Rebooting" messages.

I'm just wondering what the problem could be and if anyone could help. If you need any additional information, please feel free to ask if it will help fix my issues. Thanks in advance.

Follow the cable outside as far as you can to the junction box. Make sure it doesn't go through any hazards.

Hi, sorry you're having difficulties with your modem. It sounds like that the modem could be faulty, I would bring it to your local Time Warner store and tell them it hasn't been working right and you want to swap it out for a new one. They shouldn't have any problem doing that and it shouldn't cost you anything.



If the issue still persists, it could be something more simple like a bad cable or something. You can always try swapping out the cable from the modem to the wall with one that you know is good.

If this is only a situation once you employ your wifi connection i could attempt changing the channel your wifi announces are. maximum in all probability you're turning out to be interference from yet another wifi router the place you reside.
