Do you have the correct port forwarded to the correct computer? Does the computer have an IP address that's not in the range used by the DHCP server in the router? Is the firewall on the computer turned off, or have you set an exception for the port the VNC server is using?

Does your modem do address translation (is it in the list at http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm )? If it is, see http://www.webdingers.com/router.html

decide on for the E4200 (version 2.0) or the greater desirable moderen EA4500. I had a 3000 in the previous utilizing a 4200; mutually as they are somewhat the comparable, the E4200 is a lot swifter on the two bands than the E3000. you're waiting to do what you're envisioning to do with on the spot connectivity on your Router without 'information superhighway hookup, yet undergo in techniques you although want 'information superhighway get get entry to to and the thank you to get carry of/flash the Router with the main modern firmware adjustments. as rapidly as you install community Magic (Linksys CD that comes alongside which comprise your Router) you need to use its community Map function to substantiate basically how each and each ingredient connects visually. as much as now as Ethernet vs. USB, USB 2.0 is 480mbps, the area Ethernet is basically 100mbps. related to HDTV hookup, as long because of the fact it facilitates networking (the two USB on the spot adapter or Ethernet direct connection or Bridge), then advantageous, you would be able to connect it on your LAN. even even although, gazing the specs on your particular television, there does not look any USB or Ethernet ports.

If you are connecting from work, you need to be using the IP address assigned by your ISP to your router (as identified by sites such as http://whatismyipaddress.com). When you use this IP address in VNC from outside of your network, your router should port-forward this to your PC.

It might fail if your work router or ISP blocks this traffic.
