Hello everyone,

I'm trying to setup a MAC filter for router ZXHN H108N

I know the mac address that I want to ban from my network and I know the mac address for the router.

now there are more than one option and I don't know what should I choose.

for ( type ) there are 3 options : 1-bridge 2- route 3-bridge and route

for the ( protocol ) there are 5 options : 1-ip 2-ARP 3-RARP 4-PPPoE 5- ALL

What is the source mac address and what is the destination mac address ?

I provided a screen shot for the router settings

Personally I prefer it the other way around

I do not list those I want to ban- I list those I want to allow.

You list the MAC addresses you want to allow,

Then set the wireless access to only allow these

(the actual wording of the setting depends on your router - look in the router manual)

then no other MAC addresses are allowed access to your network

This means that its impossible to hack into your network by wireless no matter if they know your wireless password or not.

If you list those you want to ban then all they got to do is use another computer (then they can log into your router maybe and change the MAC addresses - maybe make a small change to their original computer MAC address so you dont notice the change,, but they now have access again)

Doing it this way it dont matter what computer they use.- if it aint on the list they dont get access.

You want to allow another computer then just add its MAC address to the list and give them the password (in fact you can give your wirelss password to everybody, cos if they aint on the list they dont get access - end of story)

(easiest way to do this-

turn off the MAC filtering and allow them to log on.

When they log on get their MAC address from the DHCP table and add it to the MAC filter list

Then turn MAC filtering on again)

To restrict access based on MAC addresses:

Select Wireless Settings under Advanced in the main menu.

In the Advanced Wireless Settings screen, click Setup Access List to display the Wireless Card Access List.

Figure 2-11

Click Add to add a wireless device to the wireless access control list. The Wireless Card Access Setup screen opens and displays a list of currently active wireless cards and their Ethernet MAC addresses.

Figure 2-12

If the computer you want appears in the Available Wireless Cards list, you can select the radio button of that computer to capture its MAC address; otherwise, you can manually enter a name and the MAC address of the authorized computer. You can usually find the MAC address on the bottom of the wireless device.

Tip: You can copy and paste the MAC addresses from the router's Attached Devices screen into the MAC Address field of this screen. To do this, configure each wireless computer to obtain a wireless link to the router. The computer should then appear in the Attached Devices screen.

Click Add to add this wireless device to the Wireless Card Access List. The screen changes back to the list screen.

Repeat 3. through 5. for each additional device you want to add to the list.

Select the Turn Access Control On check box

Note: When configuring the router from a wireless computer whose MAC address is not in the Trusted PC list, if you select Turn Access Control On, you lose your wireless connection when you click Apply. You must then access the wireless router from a wired computer or from a wireless computer that is on the access control list to make any further changes.

.

Click Apply to save your Wireless Card Access List settings.

Now, only devices on this list can wirelessly connect to the WNR3500 router.
