No proxies are really very good at all and they get blocked all the time as you probably know.

Plus they have issues with many web site features.

The number of proxies run by hackers is also growing daily and you risk your computer and more using one that claims to be anonymous.

The only proxy I've found to be somewhat useful because it changes IP's daily is http://www.wildtunnel.com. It is a limited proxy and only works with a few sites. But it seems to work most times and is safe to use.

The better approach is the Personal VPN which unblocks everything, encrypts your entire connection for security, and doesn’t get blocked daily. http://www.surfbouncer.com

I that's because those programs will not work thur an proxy. Reading about Proxy servers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server) it sound like an router with cache. you type the url for, say this site, the url is sent to the proxy server, the proxy server gets the site(unless its banned on Proxy server) and downloads it, then send it to you.

My guess is unless they open port 6112, used by both those games mentioned; for traffic it will not work. Talk to the admin of the dorms

get around proxy: hopster is a small application that lets you get around the firewall or proxy, so you can use a file sharing or instant messenger program even from behind a firewall. It is a free download, and it installs itself in a minute - no complicated configuration steps needed.
