MAC = Media Access Control. Every internal network card has one, think of it as the street address. It is split into sections that identify the manufacturer, model, and a serial for that one particular card. When you access the internet, the servers sending you the information (aka a website you are downloading) will go through a router (1 inlet, 5-10 outlets that go to the computers themselves). Routers direct what information go to what computer by the computers MAC address.

Routers can also use your IP (Internet Protocol) address to send information, but usually that is hidden by the router/proxy (A proxy server masks your IP and can store webpages for faster retrieval...it is usually used in company internets) server so it is harder for people to illegally hack into your computer.

The Media Access Control address is a coded number that is unique for every networking component in the world. Even if the components are identical in every other way, they will b e made with different MAC addresses.

This number is how messages in the network and Internet find their way back to the same machine that sent the request out, and only that machine.

People have found ways to fool the system and using it as a security tool is very unreliable now.

manufacturers of network cards have a range of number/letter combinations that every network device has.

basically... if there's a problem with the network.. and data crashes/collides causing network outages.. that address defines the order in which things come back onto the network. The lower the mac address, the first to be able to use the network again.

That, and it's just an identifier to tell one network card from another... it's in any wired or wireless a/b/g/n card, anything that can possibly connect to a network.

The moment you are able to find out what is Your Own True Address, you will know the Address simultenuously. You are conscious of your physical body and all its activities and conditions, of your mind -happy, unhappy, lazy, etc.etc. -, of your own intellectual capacity and of course you are able to perceive the objects of your five organs of knowledge; thus aware/awaken to the perceived world in waking state, aware of your dreaming state as also you are aware of your sound sleep the last night. Thus, YOU are the subject and your body mind and intellect and the worldly things all are objects only. In fact you continue to live by sleeping, dreaming and waking to the worldly objects and therefore you know not exactly What Your Pure Self. Hindu Scriptures logically explain that your own pure real Self is what is otherwise pointed to as the BRAHMA, the ultimate reality. Ignorants believe that there is a heaven and there the God is existing etc. Naturally I would want to know prior to heaven where he was residing?
