I don't know if this may help you, but some time ago representatives from Carphone Warehouse called at my home and advised me of their great broadband deals. They said that BT were aware that they were making such visits to people. I phoned BT to confirm this and I was immediately transferred to Customer Services, who, without being asked, offered to supply my Braodband for £7.00 instead of the £15.00 I was paying. Naturally I jumped at the chance and my bills were altered accordingly. I would ring Broadband and tell them you are thinking of going elsewhere and just see what happens.

My answer to this question is: There's simply NO BEST broadband deals.

While you may think BT, TalkTalk or Virgin offer cheap internet access package. It is only when you read the small prints to find out you are limited to a certain numbers of Gigabytes as your monthly allowance.

Even for the unlimited access offers, internet access can be extremely bad at peak times (4pm to 12pm). This is because many others like you think they got a great deal and jumped onto the same boat. Without realising the more ppl is there, the slower the connection becomes.

It is for that reason, I prefer to spent a bit more then average just so that it stays fast with unlimited usage.

Your choices no matter where you live are DSL from the phone company, cable from the cable that runs down your alley, and the cell system. DSL is by far the least expensive anywhere. Some companies will give you a data only line for a lower price. Give BT a call about that. The cell system is usually the most expensive. While several cell companies may serve your area usually there is just one phone/DSL and one cable. I once lived in a city that allowed two cables. What a breath of fresh air.

Unless you go with Virgin cable you can`t get broadband without paying for a phone line.

Talk Talk are the cheapest at £6.99 per month, plus £11.49 for the phone line which includes evening and weekend calls including 0845 and 0870 numbers.

They have a deal at the moment where you get your broadband free for the first 6 months, you just pay for the phone line.

The only drawback is the £29.99 connection fee.

My daughter is with Talk Talk and has never had a problem with them.

EDIT.

My other daughter is with Virgin cable, she just has the broadband, no phone line in the house at all, she prefers to use her mobile.

However it costs her nearly as much as it costs me for the broadband and phone package. (I`m also with Virgin.)

If your using ADSL broadband you pay line rental to BT either directly or indirectly. Nobody gets away with not paying line rental.

BT holds the monopoly on the whole of the UK telephone network. All ADSL broadband providers pay to use it.

They still pass the costs on to you in their other package costs to you even if they say they don't.

We even pay for line rental on Virgins fibre optic cable service because we eventually connect to the BT system somewhere along the line to make phone calls.

The only way you will avoid paying line rental is to use mobile broadband.
