Lenovo Netbook. DIR-615 Router. I have a desktop and the netbook only. I'm 100% lost, on how to connect to the internet, I've fully installed Ubuntu and I've been on my router and looked at the router information, I've attempted to enter it into the 'edit connection' section in Ubuntu, but I've had no luck. Would really appreciate a step by step guide on how to connect, will reward 10 points and post another random question instantly giving you best answer! xD <-- Sign of desperation right there :P Help!

oh you might have to connect it directly because you netbook has to update to get the lastest drivers for your netbook (wireless network card) and update other packages.

----

Connect ethernet cable to netbook

ubuntu should recognise network

either:

System->Administration-> Update Manager

or

open terminal type: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

------------Usually after this step an icon with require driver will pop up, then enable them.

but since you can not connect to the internet there might be an issue with the router and ubuntu.

Connect the netbook directly to the internet modem instead of the router just to get the updates.

if this doesn't work it seem like a question for the people at linux forum. Make sure your ISP also allows Linux operating systems.

on toolbar all the way up u have an icon for internet connection. If you have lan u just put the cable in the computer and that is it. I had no problem with internet connection and Ubuntu. I used it on all my computers. If u are using wireless that u click the icon and find your router name among all the others click on it and than ti will try to connect. After a sec or two u will be prompt to enter wireless password. U enter it and u get the connection.

Or maybe u need to click on the Enable network and Enable wireless. Try that, it is in the same place as I told u.

Please type the following in to Terminal:

ifconfig

And then post the results here. Just want to make sure your connection settings are right, especially since you mentioned fiddling around with them.
