If your computer is directly connected to the Internet (for example, using a modem), then if you are using Windows and have a connection icon in the system tray, right-click the connection icon and select Status. Your Internet IP address will be shown. Alternatively, open a command prompt and enter the command ipconfig /all.

another simple way to find out your IP address is this

In Windows XP, other versions you might have to do something slightly different

Click on Start

Click on Run

Type in cmd

this will open up a DOS command box.

type in

hostname and press Enter

this will give you the name of your machine

now type in ping

please substitute whatever name was returned by the hostname command

so say for example you type in

hostname and press Enter and it comes back with

draco

you will type in

ping draco

this will return something like

pinging draco [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

the xxx represent your IP address

To find your Internet Protocol (IP) of your computer on your network, depending on your Operating System (OS) in this case Windows XP, Vista, or 7, follow these steps.

Windows XP

1. Click Start, Start Menu

2. Click Run

3. In the Run box, type "cmd" or "command prompt" without quotation marks then press return/enter on your keyboard.

4. When the Command Prompt (CMD) opens, type "ipconfig" and press return/enter on your keyboard.

Windows Vista & 7

1. Click Start, Start Menu

2. On the Start Menu, in the "search box" type "cmd" or "command prompt" without quotation marks.

3. Press return/enter OR with your mouse click on the result for "cmd" or "command prompt" which should open the Command Prompt (CMD).

4. In the Command Prompt type "ipconfig" without quotation marks. Then press return/enter on your keyboard.

The Command Prompt should pull up, load, your Internet Protocol configurations, hence the command, "ipconfig." Distinguish between which is your computers IP on your network and which one is the IP of your internet connection to the internet, to the World Wide Web (WWW), Default Gateway, WHATEVER YOU REFER TO IT AS.

To find the IP of your internet connection to the internet, to the WWW, however you refer to it as, simply visit
