My isp does not offer static ip addresses. I have several servers at the house I would like to use for web, ftp...etc. Is there any company out there that will track my dynamic ip (based on installed software) and provide a published static address for me? Thanks.

Sure, I have been using this site to do exactly that for about 6 years. You could have something like condar.ath.cx as a replacement for your IP address

http://www.dyndns.com/

sign up for a FREE account. all u need to do, is to make sure u up date the IP on the site at least every 30days, Even if your IP has not actually changed. There is a small free app to download from the site too, called Dyndns updater to auto update it for you.

P.S. some routers also will connect to Dyndns site to update the IP with out needed the free App.

To get a proper static ip address you would need to do that through the internet provider and for more than 1 server you would need to purchase "blocks" of ip address's and assign them to each server in the router, that would be the most reliable option. But you can use the likes of dyndns to provide you with such a service without needing a static ip.

If you want a provider that offeres static ips look at the pro pacakge that be* broadband do, they do blocks of up to 16 static ip addresses for £21.50 a month. with upto 24meg download and 1.3meg upload (it goes up to 2.5meg upload but you have to request this).

If you wold like to run OWA, a web server, or point any internal service "externally" to the web ~ you need a static IP. Its like your phone number that is listed in the phone book. With a dynamic IP you have to give your # out to anyone that needs to connect since it changes all of the time. With a static you can register it and have DNS records point your URL to your IP.

Not that I have ever heard of. You need to find a new ISP or set up a business account with the one you have. Surely they provide Static IP addresses for business.

The only way of getting a static IP is strait from your ISP. You can get statics from other company's, but you will have to redirect them to another static and then you will be stuck, You will have to get one from your isp. If you do not get one from them, then any IP address that you get static will probably be for a third party
