I am defenitely sure that i can atleast get the type of network card and the manufacturer. i.e wireless, or ethernet, or router ,etc and wether DLINK or some other manufacturer i want the link to a website where u can do this kind of MAC lookup. i have done it once but cant quite remember where now. By d way the MAC i want to find is: 00-90-CC-E1-**-**
This MAC has been into my wireless network far too many times. so i am just curious. P.S i dont think the last two sets are necessary fill with any hex characters

You can use this site:

http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/

I entered the above MAC address and got the below. I'm not aware of any site that will show whether it's a wired/wireless adapter or the model of the device. I suspect you'd need to contact the manufacturer. Some wireless access points/routers will let you block specified MAC addresses, maybe your one has this facility?

MAC Address

Prefix Vendor

0090CC PLANET COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (was: planex communications, inc.)

First, technically, anything can be possible on the internet. For a specific example, if you use older games like Doom or a Novell Netware company intranet.. these kinds of software use a network communication called IPX. There are a lot of good and bad things that could be said.. but for my example, just understand that your machine MAC address is part of the packet header info. Your MAC address is also necessary for your local router or switch (-s) to find and send info to your machine. The info may be out there, but it is not an obvious, easy for any human thing to find. Even if someone finds your MAC address, that is only one piece of information. There are several other parts that will probably be needed to break into a computer. In my experience, usually the IP address is the primary info that is then explored.. the MAC address is only part of some hacks.. not many. Precautions: for anything on the internet, or in life>> use a password. use a good password ( 7+ characters, use letters, symbols, numbers) Try for 15 characters or more if you can.. XP machines with less than a 15 character password can be cracked using a freely downloadable utility. Don't share your password. Use different passwords, for other accounts change your passwords every few months.. or more frequently if you suspect tampering. don't tell the world your life story online. use antivirus and other security software don't take "free" stuff that you know should be paid for common sense

The reverse phone detective search tool does work, but you should use just the service that I posted above. Instead of worrying about someone else that is using your wireless network, why dont' you try to take action... Perhaps by actually securing your wireless network. If you just plugged the access point in, and did not secure it by changing the SSID, stoping the broadcast, Setting up WPA2... Then you are just asking for others to 'borrow' your wireless network.

Once you find the manufacturer and type of card, there isn't much you can do. You could use your windows machine, and match the mac address to the ip address, then DOS the ip address.

Or perhaps set up your wireless network to only allow specific mac addresses to connect to your network.

I would not be suprised if the MAC you are seeing connecting 'far too many times' is the access points MAC address.
