So, not only filter for Firefox, but also for Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome, etc.
Wildcards are not allowed in the hosts list.
I know there are some solutions provided which require to use a DNS of a third party. But, i don't trust those 3rd parties - every URL i use, is send to such DNS-server. So, the ad-filter software must be local.
For example: www.hostsfile.org offers a hosts file with this included in it's blocklist:
127.0.0.1 m.de.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 m.fr.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 m.uk.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 m1.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 m1.au.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 m1.emea.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 m3.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 rmcdn.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 rmcdn.f.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 s0.2mdn.net
So, what i want is to be able to block *.2mdn.net.
I also want to be able to block *.ads*.*; *.*advertising*.*; etc. Preferably also use of ? as wildcard, would be nice.
All filtering MUST be system wide. So: my question is NOT to get plugins for specific browsers. It must be system wide.
