i have looked for many hours on how to do this.
i put linux on a asus ep 121 32gb.
one day i went to turn it on to watch some yt vids. and i got the following error at boot

error: unknown filesystem.
grub rescue> _

i looked it up tried some solutions nothing worked. So now i have a windows os that i want to put on it. everytime i plug in the usb stick i get another stupid phenomenon as described below

HitmanPro.Kickstart 1.3 (c) 2012 SurRight

USB Boot Options:

1 bypass master boot record [default]
2 Regular boot (when bypass did not work)

Please enter choice: *i have tried booth*
when i put 1
HitmanPro.Kickstart booting
MBR Read
Failed to boot!
when i put 2
i dont remeber but it something like unknown filesystem.

The main goal is to remove linux and put windows back on. I have thought about trying to crack open the unit to remove the ssd and plug it into a working computer and reformat it there but the unit is so tightly put together its incredibly difficult to pull apart without damaging it. I have also used the bios to try and boot from the usb stick and the same hitman pro bs pops up.

I have tried using the same iso image that is already installed on the unit but the same hitman pro comes up.

therse only one os on this unit due to the size of the drive.

Hi there,

Hitman Pro is a portable antivirus app that works only for Windows.

It is probably included on your USB stick along with Windows 7 ISO (or image).

Since you have Mint installed Hitman cannot work and the USB stick evidently is not bootable in the linux formatted drive.

You will need a different USB stick that is bootable to start your computer.

Either a bootable LInux or bootable Windows 7 should work.

I have had trouble using Linux Mint 14 also. Mint 9 worked for me but the later versions had problems.

One thing I have found when making a bootable Linux USB stick. Before burning the ISO file to the USB stick do a manual format to FAT 32 on the stick. I tried a dozen times before learning this.

Unetbootin will make a bootable USB of Linux but only if the USB stick has been formatted to FAT 32 first.

Sorry you are having this trouble,

Al

Why not in basic terms twin boot domicile windows 7 and Linux Mint, and the 1st positioned up is incorrect the domicile windows installer nicely over write the grub boot-loader with domicile windows grasp-Boot-Recorder. you could in basic terms partition element of the stress that doesn't have an O/S put in and and set up domicile windows on there. in basic terms a notice, of the USB Lagecy V2.0 isn't build into the CMOS the installation domicile windows via USB nicely fail. @ Eric - you're top approximately domicile windows having problems if the entire stress is formatted to ext3/ext4, yet in basic terms whilst reformatting the entire stress; in case you in basic terms format say approximately 60 GB's the Installer ought to artwork.

Lookup gparted on USB. Gparted is a linux based format/partition tool that can

be used to reparttition or format linux or windows filesystems. You should be

able to unassign/blow away everything and let the windows installer do its thing.
