You can go by Aloks method before that make sure that the modem is bridged .Go to the modem console by typing 192.168.1.1 with the user name and password as admin.Go to Advanced Setup> WAN>Edit >Next and make sure that bridging radio button is selected(there might be some changes in the modem's interface refer to user manual or check their web site for the correct procedure) once this is done click on next and save those changes and the modem will reboot itself.Remember it's not as easy as it looks and if you mess up with the settings you may not be able to go online and it's very difficult to set things right especially if you aren't a techie, I did the same and i know what it takes to bridge the modem and go back to the original settings. All the best

Step 1:
Goto the modems home page by giving its Default Gateway on the browser.change its mode to PPPoE.then restart modem.
Step 2:
goto network places and select the option "create new connection" there you will get a wizard provide your username and password which you got from ISP.

you don't say what your router is and what your os is. im gonna guess. type 192.168.1.0 in your web browser (firefox or internet explorer) you should get your routers set up page come up, you'll have to log in with something like admin and your password for the router, once you've logged it should be the first page you see, or if it isn't look for the word connection
